Active vs. Neutral Body States

Finding Balance in Movement and Stillness

The body is constantly shifting between states of activity and rest. To achieve balance, we need both periods of movement and moments of stillness. Knowing when and how to engage each state is crucial for optimal physical health. By being aware of active states (like contracting muscles) versus neutral states (when muscles are at ease), we can better protect our joints and improve our overall alignment.

Focus on Stability in Small Movements

Grounding Through the Feet: Notice how your feet connect with the ground. Are you aware of the balance along your foot’s edges? If you tend to roll inward, practice grounding through your whole foot to build strength and improve stability.

Posture Practice: Take moments during the day to assess your posture, especially when sitting for long periods. Pay attention to your shoulders and spine; engage your core and try to sit actively rather than slouching.

Stretch and Strengthen Routine: Include short, mindful stretches each morning and evening to keep your full body more limber and notice where restrictions are. This practice will help to become aware of restrictions and move towards finding ease and strength.
